Methodology & sources
Every number on StakeScout comes from a public source, is refreshed daily and links back to where it came from.
We rank staking options by net yield: the rate you keep after the provider's or validator's fee. Rates are fetched automatically once a day; if a source can't be read, we show the last good value for up to 3 days marked "stale", then "unavailable". We never estimate a missing rate.
Last refresh: Oct 22, 2026, 03:19 UTC · 70 live, 0 stale, 10 unavailable of 80 options.
What "net yield" means for each type
- Exchanges (Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Binance.US): the APY or APR the exchange advertises on its public staking page, which already has its commission taken out. Kraken shows both a bonded and a flexible rate; we rank the bonded rate and show flexible underneath. Gemini publishes "up to" rates, which we label. Robinhood only shows rates inside its app, so we show its fee (25% of rewards) and mark the rate unavailable.
- Liquid staking tokens (stETH, rETH, JitoSOL, mSOL, JupSOL, rNEAR and others): the base APY from the DeFiLlama Yields API, which measures growth in each token's exchange rate. The protocol fee is already reflected. We exclude lending and incentive yields.
- Staking ETFs: the issuer's published net staking reward rate multiplied by the share of the fund that is staked, minus the expense ratio. This is our estimate of the staking income a holder keeps, not fund performance. Issuer pages: Bitwise and Grayscale.
- Native staking: calculated from on-chain data (see the table below). Where we can measure the typical validator commission, we subtract the median; otherwise the rate is labelled "gross, before validator fee" and is left out of "best rate" picks.
Native rate sources
| Coin | Method |
|---|---|
| ETH | No free, reliable public source yet: shown as unavailable. |
| SOL | Validator inflation rate x total supply / active stake (Solana RPC), minus the median validator commission (5%). Excludes MEV tips, so real yields with MEV-sharing validators are often higher.Source |
| NEAR | Max inflation (2.50%) x total supply / total validator stake (NEAR RPC). Before the validator pool fee, which you pick when you delegate (commonly 5-10%).Source |
| ADA | Average of total rewards / active stake over epochs 659-661, annualised (73 epochs a year). Pool fees vary by pool and are not subtracted.Source |
| DOT | No free, reliable public source yet: shown as unavailable. |
| ATOM | Network APR from chain parameters (inflation, community tax, bonded ratio) minus the median commission of the top 100 validators (5.0%).Source |
| AVAX | Network-wide gross staking reward rate published by Bitwise on its BAVA fund page (90-day average of 14-day staking rates). Before the validator delegation fee (2% minimum on Avalanche).Source |
| TRX | No free, reliable public source yet: shown as unavailable. |
| SUI | Stake rewards paid in epoch 1287 / total stake x 365 (Sui GraphQL), minus the median validator commission (8.0%).Source |
| TIA | Network APR from chain parameters (inflation, community tax, bonded ratio) minus the median commission of the top 100 validators (20.0%).Source |
| INJ | Network APR from chain parameters (inflation, community tax, bonded ratio) minus the median commission of the top 100 validators (7.5%).Source |
| APT | On-chain per-epoch reward rate x 4380 epochs a year (Aptos framework StakingConfig). Before the operator commission of the pool you choose.Source |
| POL | No free, reliable public source yet: shown as unavailable. |
US state availability
We read each exchange's own help page and store the rules in a data file with the source link and the date we checked it. Liquid staking tokens, ETFs and native staking have no published state restrictions.
- Coinbase: No new staking in CA, MD, NJ or WI. SUI staking also excludes New York. Source (checked Oct 21, 2026).
- Kraken: Kraken lists the states where onchain staking is available. Kraken does not serve New York or Maine at all. Source (checked Oct 21, 2026).
- Gemini: Gemini lists the United States as a staking region and publishes no state exclusions (New York was added Feb 2026). Confirm in the app. Source (checked Oct 21, 2026).
- Binance.US: Staking is open to all verified Binance.US users, but Binance.US itself is unavailable in these states. Kansas and Wisconsin are crypto-only (no USD). Source (checked Oct 21, 2026).
- Robinhood: Robinhood: staking is currently unavailable in California, Maryland, New Jersey and Wisconsin. Source (checked Oct 21, 2026).
Lockup and unbonding
Network unbonding periods come from each chain's documentation or chain parameters (Cosmos chains are read live). Exchange-specific waits come from the exchange's help pages, for example Coinbase's staking table. Liquid tokens and ETFs can be sold at any time, subject to market prices.
Checks we run every day
- Every rate must be between 0% and 30% (ETFs may be slightly negative after fees); anything else is treated as a bad read.
- A rate that moves by 0.25 percentage points or more is logged on the rate changes page and will trigger alerts once email sending is switched on.
- If a page changes layout and our reader fails, the row shows the last good value marked "stale" for up to 3 days, then "unavailable".
What we don't do
- We don't rank by affiliate payout. Today, no links on the site are paid.
- We don't include promotional or lending yields.
- We don't guess rates that aren't published.
