Risks of staking

  • Price risk: staking rewards are paid in the coin; if its price falls you can lose money overall.
  • Lockups: native and exchange staking can lock coins for days or weeks while unbonding.
  • Slashing and downtime: validators that misbehave or go offline can lose part of the stake or rewards.
  • Smart-contract and de-peg risk: liquid staking tokens rely on code and can trade below the value of the underlying coin.
  • Custody risk: on an exchange you rely on the company holding your coins.
  • Regulatory risk: state and federal rules can change and may end a program.
  • Tax: staking rewards are generally taxable in the US. Ask a tax professional.

Accuracy

We collect data automatically from public sources and link each number to its source. Sources can be wrong, change without notice or be read incorrectly. Always confirm the rate and terms with the provider before acting.

Affiliate disclosure

StakeScout may in future earn commissions from some links (for example, exchange referral programs). Right now no links on the site are paid. Rankings are always sorted by the data, never by payout. Paid placements, such as a featured validator listing, will always be labelled "Featured" or "Sponsored".
